April Furman
This week we are sitting down with April Furman, YouTube sensation beloved for keeping it real on all things from locks to love.
Here’s what we learned about this FAB female - enjoy!!
How long have you been in the beauty business? Well, I have been doing makeup for almost 6 years, and I’ve been in the wig business since 2008. For those just getting started, I can share that over that time, my makeup skills have improved tremendously!
Where are you from, and where do you currently reside? I was born and raised in Queens, New York City. In 2013, I moved to Avondale, Arizona with my family.
When did you first fall in love with makeup? I fell in love with makeup after I had my 5th child. I wanted to change my entire look because I had gained a lot of weight and I was bored with my style. I watched a lot of videos and really taught myself. I found an outlet that boosted my confidence and made me feel a lot better about myself.
What is a day in your life like? Ha! Never boring and never dull. I have 5 children and 2 grandchildren. 4 of my children and my youngest grandson live with me in Arizona, so needless to say, I am constantly on the move with my kids, ages 8-19! During the week I record my makeup, hair, real talk and product review videos. I have a strict video recording/production schedule, knowing that my weekends will be overtaken with prepping wigs for customers, laundry, cooking, babysitting my grandson, and all other things mom!
What is your daily beauty regime? I am ritualistic about toning! After I wash my face, I start with rose water and then I apply my toner. I love the combination of rose water and toner because it really removes any other dirt or makeup that was not removed with your facial cleanser. I always make sure I do my eyebrows, I can’t be caught with just half an eyebrow (lol). It took me years to perfect my brows so they are always part of my daily beauty regime.
What are your essential beauty products? My must have first is my eyebrow makeup, you can't do a full face look without good brows! Next I would have to say my concealer, because I love to highlight with concealer. Others coming in at a close third are foundation, bronzer, and eyeliner.
What inspires you to do what you do? I really enjoy being able to communicate with people, so I’d have to say it’s my subscribers feedback and thoughts that really keep me going - their reflections are so important to me!
If you could advise our readers of any one thing, what would it be? I would tell them to be themselves if they want to make videos then do it for you, do it for fun, and just be you!
How did you hear about Æsthetica Cosmetics? I actually became familiar with Æsthetica Cosmetics through Content Blvd, a review website that introduces vloggers to new brands.
How often do you contour? I contour every time I do my makeup it is a ritual for me!
What is your advice to those that are new to contouring? I would tell them to watch plenty of videos, and make sure to choose a well-suited color. Also, I suggest that you use a beauty sponge to contour, the look comes out a lot softer and natural looking and uses a lot less product!
What has been the most memorable moment of your career, thus far? I could never single out a specific moment, as an entrepreneur every moment is memorable. The memories that I focus on the the most are when I receive positive emails from my customers - when they love their wig or are just happy with my services it really makes it all worthwhile!
What are you looking forward to most for the coming year? Improving my wig business and learning new hair techniques. I’m also excited to expand my vlogging work and do some different things on youtube!
Where can you be found if you’re not working? If I am not working I am either watching a movie with my fiance, at the library with my kids, eating out with my family, or hanging out with my 11 month old grandson.
What beauty secret can you share with the readers? Always wash your face and use toner, try throwing rose water in the mix for an even deeper clean - I love the stuff!
If you could work on any celebrity face, whose would it be and why? It would definitely be Faith Evans, I have loved her music since she first started, she has such a soft and soulful voice I love her music!
Who’s on your playlist when you’re working? Ed Sherran, Justin Bieber, Adele, Maroon 5, Empire Season 1 and 2 Soundtrack, Mary J Blige, New Edition, TLC, Michael Jackson, Mint Condition basically a lot of the early 80's and 90's music.
Do you have any pets? Yes! Coco, my Mini Dachshund. He is 9 years old now, but I’ve had him since he was a tiny little 5 month old baby.
Here’s her contour video - incase you missed it last week!
Finally, Freedom from your freckles!
